Joanne and Chuck’s Baby Shower

After a lot of crafting and baking, Joanne and Chuck’s baby shower was finally here. I had so much fun putting everything together and can’t wait to meet Baby O!!

Black and White

I resently hosted a Girl’s Night at my house and wanted a delicious cupcake to accompany the new chocolate martini mix I had picked up. I decided to do a chocolate cupcake with vanilla frosting and top it with a malt ball. Nothing better than a moist cupcake to go with a chocolate syrup decorated martini glass!

Kid’s Birthday Party (which a few different themes)

I was recently asked to create some cupcakes for a birthday party celebrating a brother and sister. The little girl requested Dora the Explorer cupcakes, the little boy asked for Snowmen themed and the parents were planning on antique fire truck rides for their guests so they wanted to incorporate that into the cupcakes as well. I decided to try and tie the 3 completely different themes by color and keeping everything bright and childlike.

Happy Easter

I promise I’ve made lots of cupcakes between St. Patrick’s Day and Easter, but just haven’t posted!! The memory card on my camera is full of them, so hopefully I’ll be a little more consistent on uploading all the new things I’ve been trying out.

Here are some chocolate raspberry cupcakes, raspberry vanilla frosting, milk chocolate drizzle and a “Happy Easter” to top it off. You can never have too much chocolate on Easter, right?!

ABC Themed Baby Shower Invitations

I just finished up some ABC themed baby shower invitations. Both the mommy and daddy-to-bes are teachers and love to read so it only seemed logical to make the shower an ABC theme. Since they aren’t finding out the sex of the baby, I wanted to keep things neutral in color but not generic ducks or frogs which I feel like 99% of gender neutral showers are. I designed each page of a mini ABC book to represent a letter of the alphabet along with a phrase from a poem that encourages the guests to bring a book for the baby rather than a card.

I’m working on quite a few pieces for this shower so I’ll be posting as soon as I complete each part, but hopefully everything will use this as it’s jumping off point.

Super Star (with Bailey’s)

Keeping with my St. Patrick’s Day theme this week, I made a batch of chocolate cupcakes with Bailey’s frosting topped with a vanilla fondant star. In past batches of my Bailey’s frosting I used real, alcoholic Bailey’s (seems logical). I was in the supermarket last week and came across Bailey’s coffee creamer which is non-alcoholic. I figured I’d give this a shot (no pun intended) and see how it tasted. It still provides that delicious Bailey’s flavor, but with the alcohol. Pretty cool!

Kiss Me I’m Irish!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

St. Patrick’s Day is this Saturday and I needed to get in touch with my Irish roots. I whipped up a batch of white cupcake tops (aka d-cups)  and a mixed batch of cakeshots with vanillas and chocolates and went to town with my decor. I made fondant from scratch (I think the prepackaged stuff is just too gross to eat) and piped “Irish” on some and shamrocks on the other. I did orange and white striping with a little edging. For the cakeshots, Idid a circle of  orange and a circle of white frosting and topped it with a small green fondant circle. It definitely got my thinking Irish and looking forward to St. Patty’s Day!

Off to boot camp

A friend of mine’s son is leaving tomorrow for boot camp for the US Marines. She had a few people over the house to wish him off and she asked me for some cupcakes. The Marines colors are red and gold and their motto is The Few. The Proud. The Marines. I used a gold cupcake liner, made red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and red sprinkles. I wanted to add something to them, but wasn’t really sure what to do without making them too cute. I added small American flag flags and Good Luck Brian! with the Marines logo flags. I also wrote out in white chocolate “The Few”, “The Proud.” and “The Marines”. I wish him all the luck and look forward to celebrating his boot camp graduation.

Happy Valentine’s Day (a week late)

I’m starting to get back in the grove and have started baking regularly again. Now I just need to be better about posting my photos! Here are three types that I did for my Valentine’s Day orders. Chocolate with raspberry filling, raspberry frosting and dark chocolate ganache. Vanilla cupcakes with pink champagne frosting, topped with a white chocolate dipped strawberry. Red velvet with cream cheese frosting, topped with classic conversation hearts. I wanted to provide a variety of flavors without getting too crazy. From my reviews, it seems like I’m going to have to add the chocolate raspberry to my regular mix because everyone came back loving them.
